Results: Online Prelims of Finatic, Das Capital 2020

The following 2 teams from Online Prelims in no particular order have made it to the finals:

We shall also be hosting Offline Prelims on 11 January 2020 at St. Stephen's College. 
You can participate in both the prelim rounds i.e. Online and Offline. So, if you were unable to clear Online Prelims, feel free to register for Offline Prelims as well.

So here is the list of answers along with the ideal set of reasoning however, we have taken into consideration all the different answers and interpretations that we came across, depending on the connection provided. 

Answer 1: Alibaba
Reasoning:
1. Kotinos (olive wreath) was the prize for the winner at the ancient Olympic Games. In January 2017, Alibaba and International Olympic Committee announced a 800 million deal to sponsor the Olympic Games.
2. Ant Financial (formerly Alipay) is an affiliate company of Alibaba Group. It is the highest valued FinTech Company in world and the world's most valued unicorn at $150 billion.
3. In San Francisco in a cafe, he thought of the name Alibaba and asked the waitress if she knew about it. She replied, "Open Sesame". The picture shows sesame seeds.
4. In 2005, Yahoo! bought a 40% stake in Alibaba for $1 billion.

Answer 2: Rolex
Reasoning:
1. When James Cameron descended into the Mariana Trench in 2012, he sported a Rolex Deepsea Challenge, which was guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 12,000 meters (39,370 feet). The watch kept perfect time throughout the 7 hour underwater journey.
2. Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond novels was a fan of Rolex watches. In his initial novels Bond is known to wear Rolex watches.
3. In 1926, Rolex created the Oyster collection, the world's first waterproof and dustproof watch.

Reasoning:
1. In 1971 when the company started in Seattle they only sold whole roasted coffee beans and did not yet brew coffee.
2. Starbuck is the name of the first mate in Moby Dick. They named it so as they thought that the name starting with 'st' had some special power.

Reasoning:
1. YouTube was created by Paypal employees.
2. Paypal was acquired by eBay in July 2002 until July 18, 2015.
3. Tesla and Paypal have a common founder-Elon Musk
4. Paypal was initially named X.com

Welcome to the Online Prelims of Finatic, Das Capital 2020.


  • Each question has a separate form for filling in the answers.
  • All the answers need to be submitted by 5 PM, 29th December 2019.
  • No late submissions will be allowed for all the questions.
  • In case two teams have equal scores, then time factor will be taken into consideration i.e. the team which has submitted all the answers in less time will be considered.

It will include multidimensional connect, bewildering questions on different aspects of business and finance.

Finatic: DC'20 will have 2 Prelims (Online & Offline) rounds and the Final round.

For online prelims, we'll throw you all the tricky and crafty connect questions on our blog.

For the final round, teams will be selected from the online and offline prelims.

Reasoning:
1. The company was started by Amancio Ortega and his wife Rosalia Mera. They began by stiching gowns and lingerie.
2. It was first named Zobra but there was a local bar which was named Zobra so they had to drop the title.
3. The origin of zara is Spain and it brought the concept of 'fast fashion'.
